Oak Framed Buildings and Log Cabins.

Here at Harts of Oak we design and build a range of bespoke Timber Framed Buildings and Log Cabins.

The viability of timber as a building material in our British climate is proven by its thermal qualities, its durability and its longevity. Oak framed buildings have stood for centuries in every town throughout the country, the beauty of their design remaining a source of pride for those who use them.

Timber is a natural insulator due to air pockets within its cellular structure which act as a barrier to both heat and cold. Timber is seven times more thermally insulating than brick and where it is used to form a frame then additional insulating material can be placed in the spaces between the exterior and interior cladding.

Timber also has a greater ability to dampen acoustic vibrations than most other materials so is excellent where a sound barrier is necessary.

And of course, timber buildings lock in carbon, unlike brick which for every ton of finished bricks, produce about one ton of carbon in their manufacture.

Roofs can be in a variety of styles and materials, and go a long way towards defining the look and character of the buildings.

Cedar or Oak Shingles lend an appearance of warmth and texture, whilst slate tiles offer excellent weatherproofing and durability.

For the truly traditional design, we work with local craftsmen who can offer the ancient art of thatching.

Log Cabins.

We offer log cabins in the traditional style, using interlocking timbers, filled in between with traditional chinking material, a local organic, lime-based product. These cabins are warm in winter and cool in summer.
